With reference to your letter of the
17th September last
stating
that the
Rent for Bench had been taken into the
pay of the Colonial Office from the 20th
of October last, the date of sailing for Hongkong.
I am directed by the Secretary Sir William Wellington to request that it appears from a Certificate signed by
the Acting Colonial Treasurer, just received in this office, that Mr Black left London on the 24th October and received his
colonial pay (at half-rate) from that date : and I am to request you will furnish herewith explanation in respect to the difference of dates, and with reference to your above stated Town Assistant's
despatch.
